Literacy Volunteers of Rhode Island

In the past five years, Literacy Volunteer tutors here in Rhode Island have provided over 100,000 hours of instruction to adult learners.

Our Mission

Since 1980, Literacy Volunteers here in Rhode Island has helped thousands of adult learners improve their reading, writing and English language skills by:

  • Providing critical support services to local Literacy Volunteers affiliates, volunteer tutors and adult literacy students;
  • Collaborating with organizations to promote adult literacy in Rhode Island;
  • Acting as a state-wide resource for awareness and information about adult literacy, and for adult learner referrals to educational programs.

Providing high quality programs

Literacy Volunteers of Rhode Island is a state affiliate of ProLiteracy America, a national adult literacy organization with over 1,400 affiliated programs across the United States. This affiliation provides us with access to the latest instructional research and techniques to help adult learners achieve their goals.

We are proud that all of our affiliates here in Rhode Island have been reviewed and received full accreditation from ProLiteracy America. This means that local affiliates meet the highest standards for instructional quality and program management.
