There are so many ways you can contribute in addition to volunteering, and you can do it as an individual, with friends and family or with your company. Donations can take many forms, and many are tax deductible!
We also have several fundraising events coming up- be sure to check our events page.
Financial donations: give a tax-deductible cash gift
Material donations: donate items for our eBay site, our annual rummage sale, our wish list, for various events- or even donate a car
Workplace Giving: employers and employees can come together to support adult education in a variety of ways
Sponsor an event: Individuals, groups or employees can hold an event to raise funds for us.
Make a financial donation to our organization
Whether it's in memory of a loved one, as part of a wedding gift (or wedding registration!), or simply to support the cause, cash gifts support every aspect of our work. Cash contributions to LVRI provide services to recruit and train tutors, assess students, provide services to our six affiliates around the state, and enhance the delivery of volunteer tutoring to adult learners with low literacy skills. Send a contribution, or designate your United Way gift to #2930.
You can send your tax-deductible donation to:

Material donations
Donate items that we can auction on our eBay site
Check your attic, basement and closets for items that you'd like to donate to us! We have an eBay auction site where we can sell all kinds of merchandise to raise funds for our programs.
Donate your used automobile
It is often a wise tax move to donate a used car rather than sell or trade it in: you can deduct the full Blue Book value of the car from your taxes! Call us for details. We can make the process easy for you!
Donate items for our annual rummage sale
Every year we hold a rummage sale, the proceeds of which go towards our programs and services. You can donate clothes, kitchen items, CDs, books, or other miscellaneous household items that you no longer need.
Stock our wish list
Be sure to check our wish list- we might need something you're not using!
Provide supplies or prizes for events
We hold a number of events that require supplies, refreshments and prizes in addition to volunteer time. For example, for our annual spelling bee fundraiser, you can donate beverages, decorations, or restaurant gift certificates. Contact us to find out what we need for our next event.
Workplace giving and sponsored events
Literacy Volunteers depends on donations from funders and businesses of all sizes to help keep us viable. We are very grateful to our supporters for gifts of any size to our organization. There are many ways your company can contribute:
- Donate products or services from your company for one of our special events. We are always in need of prizes for fundraisers and events, such as gift certificates and merchandise. You can also provide refreshments or supplies for events, or allow employees to donate time for an event.
- Hold an event of your own! Employees enjoy supporting adult literacy by holding a dress down day, bake sale or other on-site event. Sponsor a dress-down day or other fundraising event at your business. It's a great way to build employee morale, have fun, and support a worthy cause.
- Provide space in retail stores for our tutor recruitment displays.
- Provide items for our wish list. Many of these items are office supplies.
- Sponsor matching gifts with your employees
- Call us with your ideas!
