How much does tutoring cost?
There is no charge for our services. All instruction is free.

How long is the course of study with a tutor?
There is no fixed period of time for instruction. Students can stay in the program for however long it is necessary for them to complete their learning goals.

How long is each class or tutoring session?
Each tutoring session lasts for one to two hours.

How many times a week do I see my tutor?
The tutor has committed to meet with their student once a week.

How many people are in each class?
We offer one-to-one instruction: one student, one tutor. Classes for more than one person are offered periodically as the need arises.

How old do you need to be to join the program?
You must be at least 18 years old and not currently enrolled in high school to be eligible for a tutor.

Are the tutors at LV professional teachers?
LV tutors are not professionally trained educators. They are volunteers from your community who receive approximately 18 hours of preparatory training from our staff.

Can I take classes at other schools while studying with LV?
As a student with LV, you can study at other schools of higher learning. However, currently enrolled high school students are not eligible for our services.

Does LV have GED classes?
Most GED students at LV work one-to-one with an individual tutor.

Can I get a tutor immediately, or do I have to wait?
Due to the fact that tutors are in high demand, most people have to wait before they are matched with their tutors.

What do I have to do to get a tutor?
First, you must call the office at 401-861-0815 and we will help you make an appointment with your local affiliate. Then, at your scheduled appointment we will discuss your interests and evaluate your skills. The meeting lasts between 30 and 90 minutes.

Does LV give the GED test?
LV does not give the GED test. We can provide you with the materials you'll need to study for the test, but we are not a testing center. We will assist you in finding the GED testing center closest to your home.
