There are many ways you can make a difference.

did you know...

Adults who improve their literacy skills can get better jobs, have fewer health problems, and can help their children be successful in school.

Literacy Volunteers has a volunteer opportunity for you, regardless of your age, experience, background, or amount of time that you can give. Our volunteers include working professionals, students, retirees, stay-at-home individuals and parents, and former literacy students. They all have one thing in common-the desire to make a difference in their community by contributing their time and talents to the cause of adult literacy.

You can make a difference; contact us to find the volunteer role that's right for you.

A spectrum of opportunities to help

Our volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds and skill sets, and each person contributes according to his or her ability and time.

  • Volunteer tutors work with adults for 1-2 hours a week, teaching literacy or English as a second language;
  • Program volunteers train our tutors and assist with assessing incoming students;
  • Project and event volunteers assist with various events, internal or external projects and introducing our services to others;
  • Administrative volunteers serve on our Board, assist in our offices, provide computer or technical help and do other important internal work!
